MAINTENANCE: Cleaning and caring for your new windows is easy

We recommend that you carry out the following basic maintenance procedures periodically to ensure they stay in first class condition.

PVC-u Profile
You should clean the PVC-u frames of your windows/doors at the same time as you clean the glass with a clean cloth and plenty of warm soapy water. Use a mild household detergent such as washing-up liquid - DO NOT use scouring powders or any chemical solutions as these could damage the profile.

Moving Parts
The moving parts of metal fittings (excluding stays) should be lubricated periodically with a light acid free machine oil or silicone spray, (eg silicone furniture polish).
Friction stays (hinges) should be cleaned with a damp cloth and a mild household detergent such as washing-up liquid. DO NOT use chemical or abrasive cleaners.

Clean with a damp cloth

Handles
Clean handles with a mild solution of warm soapy water applied with a soft cloth. Dry thoroughly afterwards.

General Points
All moving parts must be kept free from debris at all times.
All parts exposed when the window/door is open should be wiped down with a damp cloth to remove residues of old lubricant and grime.
The maintenance procedures for stays, handles and metal fittings as described above should be carried out at least twice yearly - we suggest in Spring and Autumn.
It is not unusual for a small amount of water to be found lying at the bottom of the outer frame beneath the window or door opening. This water will disperse in time or when there is sufficient water to cover the drainage slots. Therefore it is important to keep these drainage slots clear of debris.
