Conservatory Roof Glazing

Conservatory Roof Glazing
After choosing to invest in a conservatory it is very important to consider which type of glazing you want on the roof, it could be the biggest single difference to the usability of your conservatory. The main factors to consider are exposure to direct sunlight, privacy, cleaning, comfort, heating and what for what purpose you intend to use your conservatory for.

Polycarbonate
Polycarbonate is a versatile, tough plastic used for a variety of applications, from bulletproof windows to CDs.
A polycarbonate roof offers more privacy and is considerably cheaper than glass. It doesn’t show the dirt so much from the inside, but does tend to get dirtier on the outside so requires cleaning. It is available in two different thicknesses, 25mm and 35mm. Upgrading to the 35mm may be worth the extra cost as it offer superior insulation.

Polycarbonate is available in Bronze, Opal (White), and clear finishes. Bronze on the outside (reflects the suns glare and does not show the dirt so much) and white on the inside is the most popular choice; this option is called Bronze/Opal.

Glass
The performance of modern roof glass is quite amazing. A glass roof (when it rains) is much quieter than a polycarbonate roof, it lets much more light in and is easier to clean.

Like the polycarbonate roof, there are many different options you can choose with a glass roof including: self-cleaning, coated glass (to reflect heat) and tinted glass for an attractive finish.
