Let us show you how to increase the space in your home, add more natural light and create a beautiful new look for your home with our bay and bow windows. These windows are a classic way to enhance your home, both from the inside and out.
We offer bay and bow windows in a huge range of colours and designs, from clean and classic white to wood finishes and different colours for a touch of personality. Let the sun shine into your home from all angles!
Bay windows are the more traditional angled windows, often in the shape of a trapezoid, with three straight sides. You can decide which windows you want to be able to open and which are just there to let in natural light.
Bow windows are similar, but instead of the windows being at angles to each other, they are installed to create a smooth and elegant semicircle shape, adding sophisticated lines to your house.

How do you hang curtains in a bay or bow window?
Bay windows are a beautiful addition to your home, but what happens when you want to close your curtains and cosy up in the evening? Hanging curtains in a bay window is more complicated than a normal window, but if you choose the right fittings, it can be fairly simple. For a three-section bay window, you can get specialised curtain rods that allow the curtain to be pulled all the way around; the curtain hooks have small gaps that allow them to pass through the curtain rod attachments. You can also get bendable curtain rods that would work better for arc-shaped bow windows.
Do bay or bow windows increase home value?
Bay and bow windows can significantly increase your home value, as not only do they add extra light into your property, they create more space as well. This added square footage gives you the potential to use that space in different ways; maybe a reading nook or a play area. The added window space means the room will get more light, regardless of which direction the window is facing, and gives you a 180 degree view from your property. They may cost more to install than normal windows, but we think the benefits outweigh the costs with bay and bow windows.
How many sides does a bay window have?
The classic bay window has three sides set away from the wall, often in a trapezoid shape. This involves one window facing outwards, and two others at a 45 degree angle to the wall, and is the most popular style that you’ll find in late 19th and early 20th century houses in the UK. However, there are also box bay windows, which form a rectangle shape away from the house, with side windows at a 95 degree angle. This means you can fit armchairs or tables in snugly without having to worry about the angled sides. At Britannia, we can do both – you decide what works best for you!
What is the difference between a bow and a bay window?
Both windows add space and light into your home, but they do it in different ways. A bay window consists of around three individual windows that meet at angles beyond the exterior of a wall. A bow window, on the other hand, creates a graceful arc using an arrangement of four, six or even more windows. Both windows add more space and light to your room, but bow windows are often wider than bay windows to create that curved effect. Talk to us to find out which one would work best for your home.
Do bay and bow windows open?
Both bay and bow windows are designed to increase the space and light you get in your home. Bay windows are often simpler in design with just three panels, and at any or all of these panels will be able to open. Bow windows are usually smaller and thinner to create that curved effect, so although they will be able to open, it may just be a section of the window pane that opens rather than the full section. If you want to design your own bay or bow windows, then contact us today and you can decide how your windows open!
What can I put in a bay window?
If you have a bay window and you want to make the most of the extra space, then you can install additional seating that fits the space snugly. Fill it with cushions for a perfect reading area, and use the space underneath as extra storage, bookshelves or as a cosy nook for your pet. If you don’t want to build anything, then push a couple of comfy armchairs into each corner, perfect for a cup of tea and a catch up with a friend!
