Lantern Roof Conservatories

  • A statement conservatory which boasts a look of grandeur and elegance, our lantern roof conservatory offers a modern way to create a living space which not only looks stunning, but is also practical.

The ‘wedding cake’ effect which characterises a lantern roof conservatory is achieved through the two-tiers of conservatory roof, constructed on different levels. The two levels are divided by a row of windows, resulting in an attractive finish which looks great in any property.

The classic look of our lantern roof conservatory makes it ideal for period properties, as it boasts a heritage look, typical of high class Victorian and Edwardian properties. However, our lantern roof conservatories can come in a wide range of designs, meaning we are able to create a conservatory that suits the needs of your home.

With a lantern roof you can flood your living space with light: even when the skies are grey, a lantern roof conservatory stays bright, resulting in a room that feels spacious and open all year round.

Whether you’re adding a lantern roof as an extension onto an already existing conservatory, or building an entirely new lantern roof conservatory, our lantern roof conservatories are made to an incredibly high standard, so you can relax in this luxurious living space, safe in the knowledge that it is completely weather resistant.

  • A Lantern Roof conservatory uses fewer bars to let in even more light. With an extended eaves beam, rather than a flat roof, the internal pelmet and external cornice create a stunning orangery roof style.

A decorative cornice is used outside to hide the guttering and create beautiful sight lines.
The internal insulated pelmet will enable you to enjoy better lighting and thermal performance. You can even opt for integrated spotlights and speakers to enhance your experience.

What is a lantern conservatory?

A lantern roof conservatory is a great way to add natural light to your home without having to commit to full glass. A lantern roof is a rectangular space in your ceiling that has glass panes in the middle that are pitched to emulate a roof shape. They can be used in an already-existing room in your house (as long as it has a flat roof), or you can use them as part of a sturdier conservatory extension which has a solid roof. A decorative cornice is used outside that hides the guttering and gives you a beautiful view of the sky, as well as filling your room with natural light – even on grey days!

Do roof lanterns lose heat?

A roof lantern may lose a little more heat than an insulated and tiled roof, but at Britannia we always make sure the double-glazed glass we use is as thermally efficient as possible. If you are looking to reduce your heat loss even further, you can opt for triple-glazing in your roof lantern, which is ideal for cold climates. All our roof lanterns have internal insulated pelmets which will ensure that heat loss is kept to a minimum. A roof lantern is one of the most energy efficient ways to let natural light into your house.

Do roof lanterns let in more light?

Roof lanterns are an incredible way to increase the amount of natural light in a room. Even on grey days, you’ll find that you won’t need to turn on your lights or lamps until the sun goes down. In fact, a roof lantern lets in around three times more light than a conventional window, depending on the size you choose. You may be worried that the roof lantern might let in too much heat during the summer, but we offer different glass options that filter out UV to protect your furnishings, or slightly tinted glass to reduce glare.

How do you clean a roof lantern?

A roof lantern can be a little fiddly to clean; it’s best to use a long handle with a sponge on the end to apply warm soapy water that should get rid of any debris or dirt stuck to the glass. It’s actually a good idea to clean your windows when it isn’t sunny outside, as this could cause the glass to dry quickly and form streaks.

If you don’t like the idea of manually cleaning your roof lantern, we offer self-cleaning class, which saves you time and energy. Why not contact us and see whether a roof lantern with self-cleaning glass would work in your home?
